OK, so I have been busy what can I say? I put my mixer together last week finally. It has only been sitting in the box for around 6 months!! DUH
And I have been working a little on the dome this week finally, I pray to the Almighty God that I will keep persevering. As the saying goes, history repeats itself. One might also add.... IF I HAD A BRAIN I WOULD BE DANGEROUS. Here I go again, fixing the house because I have been distracted by other problems in life.
So, while I am having a lull in personal problems, I am really going to try hard to get a lot done on the house. First things first though. Make repairs! One thing about a dirt house, although it is costly in time to repair, the materials are very inexpensive, so, once I have invested enough time repairing I will be back to building again. Of course, I will have to do it between the garden work and my job, but I will do it.

I wasn't able to do more, I had to clean out a space in my hillbilly storage area to put my mixer, straw, and lime that I use in the plaster. Won't be back working on the house until Monday, my sister is coming to help me that day, so I am hopeful a lot will be done, it depends on how bad crippled up I get from my job though. It really does slow you down when you start getting older and your body just can not take the hard work anymore. Lord willing though, I will tough it out until it is finished. Have a blessed weekend. That looks beautiful. We built a mud-walled, tamped mud floor building a couple of years ago, but I really like the earth-bag idea. Really elegant way to get a wall built without having to make bricks or something. I'm not sure how stable it would be in a earthquake, which we have many of here in Japan. The texturing on the outer plastering is great.

There have been lots of stress tests done on the earth bag construction of domes. They have a remarkable way of riding them out. That said, I believe it may be the shape of the dome that actually withstands the stress. I am not an expert on this however. I am simply a person that wants to have a decent house to live in without going head over heals in debt. The Cal Earth Institute in California USA has a lot of information. I think water could be more of a concern with this type of building method. Thanks, Liz
